Inspiring Thoughts

"Opinion is the medium between knowledge and ignorance”

Plato

“If you do not believe in a personal God the question: ‘What is the purpose of life?’ is unaskable and unanswerable. To whom or what would you address the question?”

J. R. R. Tolkien

"Resentment is like taking poison and hoping the other person dies"

St. Augustine

“He has come too near to the truth, and has forgotten that truth is a magnet, with the powers of attraction and repulsion. . . . The moment men cease to pull against it [the Catholic Church] they feel a tug towards it. The moment they cease to shout it down they begin to listen to it with pleasure. The moment they try to be fair to it they begin to be fond of it. But when that affection has passed a certain point it begins to take on the tragic and menacing grandeur of a great love affair. . . . When he has entered the Church, he finds that the Church is much larger inside than it is outside.”

G K Chesterton

“People hate the truth for the sake of whatever it is they love more than the truth. They love truth when it shines warmly on them, and hate it when it rebukes them.”

St. Augustine

The dominant secular culture is deaf and blind to God’s existence. The result is that, in eschewing a God’s eye perspective, morality, bioethics, the state, and the meaning of life are all approached as if everything came from nowhere, were going nowhere, and for no enduring and ultimate purpose.

Engelhardt

Doing Right

"There should be less talk; a preaching point is not a meeting point. What do you do then? Take a broom and clean someone's house. That says enough.

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;

Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;

Be kind anyway.

If you are successful you will win some false friends and true enemies;

Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;

Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;

Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;

Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;

Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;

Give the world the best you've got anyway

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; it was never between you and them."

Mother Theresa

"Atheists say with their lips that there is no God, but they show with their lives that there is."

Norman Geisler

"It is incomprehensible that God should exist, and it is incomprehensible that he should not exist."

Blaise Pascal

"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts."

Bertrand Russell

"If there is no God, nothing matters. If there is a God, nothing else matters."

H. G. Wells

“You can say what you think but you will live what you believe.”

Mark Hall

"I never knew where I was until I had moved beyond it. I never intended to be what I was becoming.

I never suspected that the mountain had become a stair, and that I had been climbing step by step for years before I found myself above the tree line, above the clouds, where I could finally see where I had been going all along."

God

  • God is not a being. God is the sheer act of being itself.

  • To be God is to be.

  • The glory of God is a human being fully alive.

  • God is not a thing in the world.

  • The true God is being itself

  • God moves you to seek him
